10% Fare Increase starts February 1, 2008

As announced on Metra trains today throughout the Chicagoland area, all fares will be increased by 10% on tickets starting February 1, 2008. Local news coverage can be found here.
Metra's official new price schedule (pdf file) states the new prices which depend on your station's zone. It is also worth noting that this fare increase appears to be unrelated to the recent news and talks of a further more dramatic fare increase being discussed by operators and state lawmakers in Springfield. According to news reports, Metra officials consider the fare increase a modest jump necessary to replenish capital investment funds needed for daily operations.
